When Should You Book Your Wedding Celebrant?

Congratulations, you're engaged! Loads of people have probably already told you to book your venue first. And they're absolutely right! But your next booking? That should be your celebrant, because good ones book up fast.

Most celebrants (including me) take bookings around 12–18 months in advance. Summer Saturdays and Halloween in particular go very quickly. So if you've got your heart set on a specific date and a specific celebrant, waiting to sort it later is a high risk strategy.

The average couple books their celebrant around 9–12 months before their wedding. But if you're getting married in peak season (May–September, especially Saturdays), earlier is better. I've had couples come to me three months out and had to turn them away because I was already booked on their date.

But what if you've just got engaged and haven't set a date yet? You can still start the conversation. I’m always very happy to have an initial chat, we can check availability around your rough timeframe, and keep in touch while you finalise details. Getting to know a celebrant before you're ready to book is always a good idea, because finding someone you really love only to discover they're booked is gutting.

What if you've left it late? Don't panic. Weekday weddings and off-peak dates have much better availability. And you know, stuff happens, so we occasionally have cancellations. It's always worth asking.

The most important thing is this: don't treat your celebrant as an afterthought. The ceremony is the whole point of the day. So treat booking the person who'll deliver it with the same urgency as you do when booking your venue.
